How to sell a forest?

Forest auctions

What is an auction?

The auction is the most efficient and transparent way to sell the forest. In the auction system, the forest property owner has the opportunity to sell the forest to the highest bidder from 200 companies integrated within the e-silva system. We not only determine the highest possible price for the forest during the auction but also guarantee a legally secure transaction.

What is necessary to
sell a forest?

We provide all the necessary documentation and formalities to help you successfully sell a forest.

  • Start price

The forest owner sets the starting price for the auction. e-Silva can give an informative, free consultation to forest owners about calculating a starting price.

  • Felling affirmation

To sell a felling site and begin felling trees in a forest, you need a tree felling permit, which you can receive by applying through the State Forest Service. The permit is issued within one month of the application being registered with the State Forest Service. The permit is a document issued by the State Forest Service which confirms the legality of the specific planned work and is viewed as permission to complete this action (felling trees).

  • Felling site pruning

Felling site pruning or preparing a sketch, is a package of jobs which includes visiting the felling site, cutting out a boundary line (marking out the area to be felled on site) and compiling a sketch. The sketch is submitted along with the application to fell trees to the State Forest Service. If necessary, e-Silva offers this service throughout Latvia. The service takes between two and 15 days to complete.

  • Felling site dasting

Felling site dasting, or assessing the felling site (calculating the volume of timber by species) is necessary for calculating the starting price of a felling site auction, and to enable us to describe the lot to auction participants with greater precision. During this process, the diameter 1.3 meters above the root crown of every tree to be felled is measured, as well as the exact heights of these trees. The measurements are processed using a specific programme to find out the volume of timber to be obtained in cubic meters. E-Silva can provide this service with full neutrality. The service takes between two and 15 days to complete.

How is the transaction organized?

Once the auction closes, the highest offer is confirmed and e-Silva organizes the transaction between the involved parties, as well as offering full-service legal support to the forest owner.

  • Day 1

    We announce an auction

Each auction participant receives a personal notification about the new object to be auctioned.

  • Day 2 - 7

The auction participants familiarize themselves with the object

The auction participants familiarize themselves with the object and view it in person.

  • Day 8

The auction closes, and the highest bidder wins

The auction winner and the highest price offered for the object are determined. The owner receives a personal notification about this via SMS.

  • Day 8 - 11

The documentation for completing the transaction is prepared

The purchase agreement is drawn up, and we organise for the buyer and forest owner to sign it.

  • Day 12

    The owner receives their money

The purchase amount, from which we have already deducted income tax, is transferred to the forest owner’s bank account.

How is the price of the felling site set?

Potential income from selling various assortments

Felling site price

Every forest owner who wants to sell the felling area in his forest property can calculate the value himself

All that needs to be done afterwards is to count up the potential income from the sale of various products and to subtract the logging costs (sawing, collecting and transporting to the processing or sale site). For the e-Silva felling site price, we use the figures submitted to our system by the round timber buyers and logging service providers. Thanks to these figures, we have access to current market information every day.
